5 Russian Nesting Stacking Dolls

This set of five Russian nesting stacking dolls were a gift from a lady in Russia. The bottom of the largest doll says "Poccua - 5 UY. " The dark green, rose, blue, and embossed gold make these a stunning set of dolls.

Russian craftsmen have been making stacking dolls since the mid-1700s. The raw material used in making the dolls are lime logs that are air dried for several years. Every piece passes through as many as 15 turning operations. The turning is all done by hand and by eye - no measurements are involved. The doll is then allowed to dry before being primed and painted.

These five dolls are all in excellent condition. They range in size from 5" tall to 1-1/4".
