Red Wing Commemorative - 2000 Miniature Hamm Pitcher
This listing is for a 2000 Red Wing Collectors Society (RWCS) commemorative miniature
Hamm pitcher and the historical card that came with the commemorative. These commemoratives
are very hard to find!
This is a miniature version of a beer pitcher figurine made by Red Wing Potteries
for Theo. Hamm Brewing Company in the late 1950s. The pitcher was part of a popcorn
set that included a 60 oz pitcher, salt and pepper shakers, a large 12" bowl, and
four 6" serving bowls. Blanks borrowed from Red Wing's Casual dinnerware line were
handpainted with an outdoors scene (lake, pine trees, and deer) in keeping with
the brewer's Land of Sky Blue Waters theme.
The 2000 commemoratives were made by Western Stoneware of Monmouth, Illinois.
An innovative process was used to recreate the outdoor scenes on the commemoratives;
they are not handpainted. The artwork from an original Hamm's pitcher was copied
with a color photocopier that captures 3-dimensional images. After several adjustments
to achieve accurate colors and to fit the curvature of the pitcher, glaze decals
were produced from this photocopy.
The 2000 convention logo is located on the bottom of the commemorative applied
via blue glaze decal. The bottom also has "RWCS 2000" in raised characters.
This item is from my personal Red Wing Pottery vintage collectibles and is in
perfect condition. This Red Wing figurine is approximately 7" tall and 5" wide (counting
the handle).
