Vintage Chalkware - Pair of Sheep Wall Plaques - Unused
View Vintage Pictures Category
This old vintage chalkware is a matching pair of very shiny pink and white sheep
with white bow ties. I can just picture these on the wall of a retro bathroom or
a small child's bedroom. What a unique pair of antique chalkware!
Molded ornaments such as these are made of plaster of Paris,
commonly known as chalkware (sometimes called carnival chalkware). They portray
a wide variety of subjects as whimsical as pink and white sheep and as noble as
royalty. Chalkware was produced in Europe and America from the 18th to the 20th
century and was an inexpensive substitute for ornaments made of more expensive materials
(marble, wax, earthenware, porcelain, glass, or wood). These pieces of vintage chalkware
are probably from the 1950s.
There is a wire loop on the back of each sheep (or lamb) to make them easy to
hang. The larger decorative wall plaque is approximately 6-1/2" wide and 7" tall.
The smaller wall plaque is approximately 6-1/4" wide and 6" tall.
Both vintage wall plaques are in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks,
peeling paint, or fading. I don't think they were ever used.
